Woman dead, several injured in Rawang crash, Gombak, Selangor.

RAWANG: A woman was killed, while several others were injured, in an accident involving two Proton cars near the Rawang toll plaza.  

The 28-year-old factory worker perished in the accident which occurred at about 7am Sunday at KM4 of Jalan Rawang-Batu Arang.  

The woman was one of the passengers of the Proton Saga driven by her father.  

Gombak OCPD Asst Comm Ali Ahmad said the Saga driver was ferrying eight passengers to a factory at the Rawang Integrated Industrial Park when it was hit by a car from the opposite lane.  

"A Proton Persona from the opposite lane veered into the Saga's side of the road and crashed into the vehicle.

He said both drivers were severely injured in the collision.  

Selangor Fire and Rescue Department assistant director (operations) Mohd Sani Harul said eight firefighters arrived at the scene 10 minutes after a  distress call was received at around 7.10am.  

He added that five children were also injured in the crash.  

The victims are being treated at Hospital Sungai Buloh.  

The body of the deceased passenger was sent to the same hospital for a post-mortem.  

An uncle of the deceased, who wished to be known only as Zul, 40, said that his brother was dropping off the deceased in Rawang for an excursion to Kalumpang, Hulu Selangor.  

Zul said that his niece was supposed to be joining a bigger group of co-workers for the trip.  

His brother was sending her to the meeting point in Rawang, after which a bus would ferry the participants to Kalumpang.  

His niece was the eldest of four daughters.  

Her remains will be brought to a mosque in Country Homes, Rawang, for prayers before the burial on Sunday evening.  

The case has been classified as reckless driving under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
